Dr Fiona Bisshop

Fiona is a GP in Brisbane, having studied at the University of Queensland. She has an honours degree in microbiology as well as her medical qualifications, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of GPs. She has been working in the area of LGBT health and HIV medicine since 2001, and has an active interest in research. She is an S100 prescriber, and offers holistic HIV management, PrEP and advice on all sexual health matters.

Fiona is experienced in transgender medicine, and is the President of AusPATH, the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health. She is passionate about delivering high quality care to trans and gender diverse people, and is able to assist people at all stages of transition.

Fiona also has an interest in minor surgical procedures such as skin cancer removals and contraceptive implants, and provides hormone implants.

Model of Care

Dr Bisshop practices an informed consent model of care for trans and gender diverse people. This means that there is no “gatekeeping” approach or prolonged assessment process in order for people to access treatment for gender transition.

If you are a new patient wishing to access assistance with transition, you will need to make a long appointment. This first appointment is an introductory chat to help Dr Bisshop clarify with you your issues and goals, and to work out a collaborative plan for how to help you on your journey. There is no requirement for you to have had any formal assessment prior to this appointment, and you do not need a referral to see her. If however you have seen other medical or mental health professionals, it would be useful to bring along a letter or information from them if you have this.
